Does it ever get any better?

My grandma says bad things always come in threes.

Right before Thanksgiving Grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer. At the beginning of December my sister was admitted to the hospital with a blood infection from shooting up with a dirty needle. About 2 weeks ago Mom's cousin, after serving 20+ years in the army, passed away from a heart attack. Than, this past Wednesday our neighbors, both husband & wife, were killed in a car accident.

That is 4!

Not that I would ever wish bad things on anyone, but I think we have had our turn and it is someone elses'. Enough is enough!

I was really hoping 2013 would be a better year.

UPDATE:

My sister has made it through her first week living with our uncle and aunt. Things seem to be going well, according to them. There was only one thing that concerned us. My uncle left some money for my sister to put minutes on her phone and pay for her prescription. We found out that my cousin, who drove her, actually used her credit card to pay for everything, so what happened to the cash? Besides that things are good. My uncle and aunt had my sister's car towed and fixed. Now she is trying to figure out how to pay for it, renewing her license, and getting some insurance. Oh and a little thing called a job. I know it takes baby steps, but we aren't seeing much effort from her yet. I'm just glad the weekend is over.

  1. My 22 y.o. is a recovering addict..had about 16 months clean then relapsed a few weeks before New Years but we found out on New Years.

I have a younger son who is 14. We were able to hide it from him for a long time and even told him that the reason we made his Brother leave the home was because he refused to work after numerous chances. He bought it for a long time.

Now he knows everything and I often worry how this will affect him now and in the future. He is such a great kid. He loves his Brother so much and actually my older son is incredibly good to him even when he used he never wanted him to find out.

But now that it is all out we have been very honest with him. INcluding the recent relapse.

I am glad you are writing. It has helped me so much and has kept me sane. You will also help a lot of us, having insight on how the other child or (children) in the house feel.

    Thank you.

    1. Tori, Thanks for sharing a small part of your story with me. I will be praying for your entire family. As far as your younger son, I don't know what it is like to be the younger sibling, but I do know what it is like being the sibling of an addict. I would say now that your younger son knows what is going on be honest and open with him. He is at that age where peer pressure really starts and some begin experiencing with drugs. We believe my sister was around 15-17 years old when she started using drugs. If your younger son sees what his older brother and family go through, because of the addiction, he may be less to go down the same path. Also, just from experience, make time for your younger son. Don't let the chaos of your older son's addiction affect your younger son and your relationship with him. This is just my opinion. I am still learning myself. Thanks for the comment.

  2. Cash....is a dangerous thing for an addict to have. In fact for my son...a job can be a dangerous thing. Job+paycheck+money=relapse. Such a vicious circle...sorry I don't have more answers but hugs to you and your family. Blogging saved me from myself...and I hope you find comfort in this community too.

    1. I agree! Cash is dangerous! My mother, father, and I have all given my sister money in the past thinking it was for gas, food, car issues, etc.. and only to find out she blew it on drugs. She has even stolen cash or things she could sell for cash from us. It is really sad. However, my uncle & aunt seem to think she really wants a second change to start changing your life (I have my doubts, because she refused to attend any kind of rehab/program/or attend meetings.)Plus, eventually she is going to have to learn to work, pay her bills, and stand on her own 2 feet. I'm not really sure what to do or what the right answers are. Like I said in my other comment I am still learning. Thank you for your comment too. I will be praying for your family and your son.
